A day after Mickey Callaway and Jason Vargas brought unneeded distraction to the Mets by quarreling with the press in the clubhouse, the Mets tried to get back on track in Philly against a spiraling Phillies squad who’d lost seven straight. Things, as they often have this season, did not go as planned. While the Mets’ offense came to play, their pitching did not, with Steven Matz and the dregs of the bullpen getting torched for 13 earned runs by the Phillies.
The Mets gave Callaway and Vargas a slap on the wrist for their scuffle with reporter Tim Healey.
