The Mets kicked off their 2025 season with a 3-1 loss the Astros in Houston. The bats were stymied by Framber Valdez, mustering just four hits over seven innings. Clay Holmes, meanwhile, allowed three runs (two earned) over 4 2⁄3 innings in his first regular season start since 2018. The Mets loaded the bases in the eight and ninth, but could only push home one run as their comeback attempt fell short. Juan Soto got a hit in his first at-bat as a Met but struck out as the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth to end the game.
