Mets Morning News: Draft Day

It was MLB draft day and the Mets had their highest pick in several years. They used it on highly-regarded outfield prospect Jarred Kelenic, an 18-year-old from Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Kelenic, for his part, seemed very happy to have been drafted by the Mets.

In the second round of the draft, the Mets selected Simeon Woods-Richardson, a high school pitcher from Texas. Woods-Richardson, who had been a prized recruit for the University of Texas baseball team, appears likely to spurn the Longhorns to sign with the Mets after tweeting that he can’t wait to be a part of the organization.
