Jacob deGrom took the mound in the series opener against the Nationals and pitched the best game of his career, throwing a complete game two-hit shutout with a career high 15 strikeouts (and notching two hits at the plate as well) to lead the Mets to a 6-0 win.
deGrom recorded his 50th strikeout on the season last night, passing Nolan Ryan and Shane Bieber’s records for the most strikeouts in a pitcher’s first four starts to open a season.
The dominance that deGrom has demonstrated during this stretch needs to be put into perspective to be fully appreciated.
