The 2019 Mets have started looking a lot like the 2018 version over the past week, and Friday night’s game wasn’t much different. While their pitching got the job done, albeit despite a shaky Steven Matz, the offense was nowhere to be seen. Worse still, the Mets had to pull Luis Avilan from the game in the 8th due to a sore elbow.
In a somewhat surprising move, the Mets demoted Dominic Smith to Syracuse to make room for Adeiny Hechavarria on the roster. Smith, who’d been hitting well, was said to be surprised by the move, and angry at the team.
