While he did not get the win, this was a good step for Matz who has been out all season with elbow discomfort and a strained flexor tendon. To go along with his perfect outing, Matz recorded eight strikeouts.
Things didn’t go so well in his first start, against the Round Rock Express on Tuesday where he gave up five runs on five hits over four innings. He did however strike out four while walking two.
He needed 73 pitches to get through the five innings and proved that he can be efficient and that he’s ready to pitch again.
