Mets: Mike Pelfrey to retire

“Big Pelf” was our big guy before Noah Syndergaard was our big guy. He pitched during an interesting time for the Mets. He arrived in 2006 when the team seemed to be poised for back to back postseason runs. But he instead ended up being one of the few constants during what could be considered lost years for the team in the late 2000s/early 2010s. Pelf’s ERA wasn’t anything astronomical at that time. He would never be considered the ace of that rotation, especially with R.A. Dickey floating around in the mix.

And yet still, in 2010 it was Mike Pelfrey’s jersey that I wanted.
