Novice or known commodity? As the Mets head into the home stretch in their managerial search, Joe Girardi remains on the board — at least for the moment — but at least five other candidates, none of whom have managed in the major leagues beyond the interim level, have chances.
Girardi’s fate could be known as soon as Thursday, as the former Yankees manager has emerged as the Phillies’ front-runner, according to industry sources. If the Mets don’t jump on Girardi, whose second interview with the club occurred earlier this week, it will likely leave them with a first-timer in the seat.
