Mets manager must recall bullpen vision he once preached

MILWAUKEE — Some Mets fans have lost confidence in Jeurys Familia, who has blown four saves, the most by any closer.

Mickey Callaway hasn’t lost any confidence.

In fact, the Mets manager said Thursday that Familia is pitching at the top of his game and will remain the closer. He doubled down.

Wins, like runs, are so precious for the Mets, and Callaway might be better off going with his original gut instincts he showed in December when he said the Mets were not “locked into having a set closer.’’

This is a time to be bold and mix it up and use Seth Lugo or others on occasion in the closer’s role.
