Jerry Blevins watched the flight of the ball to left field. After a few moments, he turned back. He had seen enough of the three-run homer he allowed to Adonis Garcia, the Atlanta Braves’ third baseman. Blevins looked down and called for a new ball.
Blevins did not allow the go-ahead run in the Mets’ 5-4 loss to the Braves on Tuesday night at Citi Field. Josh Smoker had done that an inning earlier with a bases-loaded walk. But when Blevins entered the game, the Mets trailed by only one run.
