The Cubs have claimed left-handed reliever Jack Leathersich off waivers from the Mets, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reported.
Leathersich, 25, underwent Tommy John surgery in late-July.
Leathersich had thrown 57 pitches for Triple-A Las Vegas in what was his final appearance before surgery.
In 11.2 innings (17 appearances) for the Mets in 2015, Leathersich posted a 2.31 ERA and 1.63 WHIP.
In a tweet, Leathersich thanked the Mets organization for the opportunity to play in New York and thanked Mets fans for their support.
Thoughts:
Since he’s rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, Leathersich likely won’t be able to return to game action until July or August of 2016.
