In Duda's absence, the Mets' options at first base range from Eric Campbell to Kelly, who was batting .391/.478/.548 in 35 games at Las Vegas. A 27-year-old switch-hitter whom the Mets signed to a Minor League deal this winter, Kelly is a veteran of eight Minor League seasons but had yet to crack the Majors until Monday.
Other options at Triple-A included the Pacific Coast League's leading hitter, T.J. Rivera, and last year's Las Vegas Player of the Year Travis Taijeron. But both are right-handed, as is much of New York's current bench. Wilmer Flores, who is also right-handed, is due to start a Minor League rehab assignment on Tuesday, and he could rejoin the Mets as soon as Friday.
