NEW YORK -- Terry Collins still has the ear of the New York Mets clubhouse.
The manager lit into his team Thursday after it suffered a sweep to Arizona Diamondbacks, questioning the players’ effort and passion to play. Though the Mets didn’t beat the San Diego Padres on Friday night, it’s clear his message got through.
New York starter Logan Verrett pitched himself out of the rotation by giving up eight runs in 2u2154 innings. Despite big early deficits, the Mets didn’t stop coming after the Padres until the final out of an 8-6 loss before 24,422 at Citi Field.
