Mets LHP Jason Vargas struggled from the outset against the Reds on Tuesday and went on to allow three runs in an outing that was cut short by a rain delay that lasted nearly two hours.
Vargas allowed a run on three hits before a thunderstorm rolled over Citi FIeld, which sent the game into a delay and ended his night early. He gave up a leadoff single to Jose Peraza, who stole second and reached third when Brandon Nixon struck out.
Scooter Gennett then drove in Peraza with a base hit to center field and Eugenio Suarez followed it up with a ground-rule double to move Gennett to third on the last play before the game entered a delay.
