Mets let Logan Verrett’s guile go to waste

James Loney gets hit by a pitch in the fourth inning.

PHILADELPHIA — What a waste.

The Mets got just about everything they could have wanted from the weakest spot in the rotation Saturday night, with Logan Verrett giving his team every opportunity to win, only to waste too many scoring chances to complete the deal.

Hitless in seven at-bats with runners in scoring position, the Mets lost 4-2 to the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, in an eyesore.

Asdrubal Cabrera’s throwing error led to the Phillies scoring the go-ahead run in the seventh against Jerry Blevins before Erik Goeddel’s wild pitch an inning later brought in another.
