NEW YORK — The Mets suffered a significant blow Sunday afternoon when they learned lefty reliever Jerry Blevins has a fractured left forearm.
Blevins was struck by a batted ball off the bat of Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon in the top of the seventh inning. He left the game after being examined by Mets trainer Ray Ramirez.
Less than a half hour later, the club announced the injury.
Blevins was a crucial addition to the Mets bullpen last month. He had retired all 15 lefties he'd faced so far this season and was a critical part of their bullpen, in line to face dangerous left-handed hitters late in the game.
