The Mets will be relying on their starting pitching depth over the first few weeks of the season, and maybe for a little bit of time beyond. Left-hander Steven Matz spoke to the media on Monday and revealed he’s been diagnosed with a strained flexor tendon in his pitching elbow.
“From my understanding, it’s like a flexor strain, I strained my flexor. That’s kind of what the feeling is, that the flexor tendon is kind of flaring up,” Matz told reporters.
Matz had been placed on the disabled list before the season officially got underway with “elbow irritation,” but this latest claim by the pitcher raises a few more concerns about his availability in the early part of the year.
