Mets keep Michael Conforto for over-crowded outfield

Michael Conforto kept his Mets roster spot Monday as Michael Cuddyer was activated from the disabled list. The Mets will demote utility man Eric Campbell to Triple-A instead.

Conforto will start and bat seventh Monday night as the Mets, who lead the NL East by 1.5 games over the Nationals, open a four-game series with the Rockies at Citi Field. The lefty swinger is more likely to sit — in favor of Cuddyer — against southpaws.

Conforto, the 22-year-old rookie left fielder, is batting .222/.326/.389 through 11 big league games, with one home run and eight RBIs.
