Mets outfielder Juan Lagares, who is on the disabled list due to a partially torn ligament in his left thumb, will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton on Tuesday, the Mets said.
He’s eligible to return from the DL on June 30, but the Mets did not indicate how long his rehab assignment would last.
When he joins Binghamton, Lagares will be with recently-signed Jose Reyes, who debuted for the Brooklyn Cyclones on Sunday and is working his way into shape while learning third base and the outfield.
Lagares injured the thumb on June 4 while making a diving catch against the Marlins.
