MILWAUKEE — Jeurys Familia, the Mets’ all-star closer, will be out for several months after undergoing surgery Friday to remove a blood clot near his right shoulder.
“It’s possible he’ll be back by the end of the year,” said General Manager Sandy Alderson, who was awaiting a full report on the surgery. “It’s possible he won’t. We just don’t know at this point.”
Familia’s blood clot, which was discovered Thursday, is the latest blow to a battered Mets roster that is already without the bedrock of its lineup (Yoenis Cespedes), its rotation (Noah Syndergaard) and, now, its bullpen (Familia).
