Mets right-handed reliever Jenrry Mejia has received a permanent suspension from baseball after testing positive a third time for illegal performance enhancing drugs.
Mejia, 26, had been suspended for a first time prior to last season and suspended for a second time in July, shortly after he returned from the first suspension.
Prior to his third and final suspension, Mejia had been eligible to return from his second suspension on July 26.
In a statement, the Mets said they were “deeply disappointed” but refrained from further comment.
