The Mets and utility player Jared Young agreed to a one year major league contract, the team announced today. The left-handed hitting, right-handed fielding Young has logged innings at first, second, third base, as well as left and right field throughout his minor league and international career, and looks to try and break camp as a super utility option for the Mets. He also has two options, according to FanGraphs.
Young has had an interesting path to get to this point. Drafted out of Old Dominion University in the 15th round of the 2017 draft by the Chicago Cubs, he worked his way through their minor league system before having two cups of coffee in the big leagues, playing 22 games and amassing 69 plate appearances across 2022 and 2023.
