Not many prospects who bat .163 at Triple-A get invited to spring training, but not many of them are named Tim Tebow, either.
The former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback was one of 15 non-roster players invited Thursday by the Mets to spring training in Port St. Lucie next month.
The invite clearly is more of a business decision aimed at selling Grapefruit League tickets than a baseball one by the Mets.
The 32-year-old Tebow was hitting just .163 with four home runs and a paltry .495 OPS in 77 games for Triple-A Syracuse last season when he suffered a season-ending finger injury in August.
