While the Mets have not made a major move since signing Juan Soto on Sunday evening, there have been a number of developments that involve the Mets today at the Winter Meetings.
First, a report surfaced, via Sports Illustrated, that the Mets are open to trading outfielder Starling Marte for relief pitching. Marte, entering his age 36 season and in the final year of his Mets contract, was slowed by injuries and declining defensive abilities in 2024, hitting .269/.327/.388 with an OPS+ of 104.
With Soto set to play right field for the Mets, Marte appears slated to get a large chunk of the designated hitter at-bats if he remains on the team.
