Just call him “the bird.”
Yoenis Cespedes spotted one Mets fan that wasn’t counted at the turnstiles Wednesday night at Citi Field: a neon yellow parakeet that flew in and came to roost on the netting behind home plate. He mentioned it as he spoke about hitting his first home run as a Met, an eighth-inning blast into the bullpen area in right center.
Asked about the neon yellow sleeve he wears on his left arm, Cespedes said through translator Ricky Bones: “I just use it because I know there was a bird at the field and I just want to look like the bird and hope it gives me some luck.
