New York Mets first baseman Lucas Duda will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton this weekend, the team announced on Twitter.
Duda has been out since August 22 due to a back injury and recently started swinging a bat. Prior to beginning to swing a bat during his rehab, Duda had been taking grounders and tracking pitches in the batting cage.
Sandy Alderson said last week that Duda would likely return when his minimum 15 days on the disabled list were up (September 6), but that doesn’t appear likely.
Duda attempted to avoid the disabled list by resting for five days and returning on August 21.
