In the event Terry Collins keeps winning and retires after his contract expires, people in the organization say Dick Scott will be a legit candidate to be their next manager.
The Mets named Scott, 53, their new bench coach on Wednesday. He replaces Bob Geren, who left in November to join the Dodgers.
Scott played a handful of games at shortstop in 1989 for the A's, when Sandy Alderson was their GM. Alderson eventually hired Scott to be a minor league manager in Oakland. After a brief stint in Arizona's farm system, Scott was hired to run player development for Blue Jays GM J.
