Mets hiring Jeremy Hefner as pitching coach

The Mets are adding one of their former pitchers to Carlos Beltran’s coaching staff.

Jeremy Hefner will be hired by the Mets as their new pitching coach, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman. Hefner was most recently an assistant pitching coach for the Twins.

Hefner, 33, made 50 appearances (36 starts) for the Mets across the 2012 and ’13 seasons. Two Tommy John surgeries essentially ended his career before he got into coaching.

The move comes a day after the Mets hired Hensley Meulens as bench coach.

Phil Regan, 82, was the Mets’ interim pitching coach after they fired Dave Eiland during the 2019 season.
