Jacob deGrom becomes the fifth player in Mets history to receive a contract worth more than $100 million. The Amazin’s didn’t necessarily get what they paid for in the first four cases. Here’s a look:
Carlos Beltran He made four All-Star games in seven seasons and finished fourth in MVP voting in 2006, but he famously struck out to end the NLCS that year. Johan Santana He finished third in Cy Young voting in his first season in Flushing, won 13 games the next year and threw the only Mets’ no-hitter in 2012, but injuries took their toll and he never pitched for them after that season.
Seven years, $119 million (2005-11)
Six years, $137.5 million (2008-14)
