PORT ST. LUCIE – The Mets traded right-handed pitcher Gabriel Ynoa to the Orioles for cash considerations on Friday, clearing space on the 40-man roster.
The Mets needed the spot for reliever Fernando Salas once his deal becomes official.
Ynoa, 23, had some impressive minor league numbers. He was called up in 2016 and appeared in 10 games for the Mets, including three starts. The right-hander was 1-0 with a 6.38 ERA over 18 1/3 innings. He struck out 17 and walked seven. At Triple-A Las Vegas, Ynoa was 12-5 with a 3.97 ERA.
The Mets, if their starters stay healthy, have a loaded rotation.
