The Mets will attempt to re-sign infielder Neil Walker after the season, Kristie Ackert of the Daily News reports, citing a team source.
Ackert’s source noted that the Mets would make a “good run” at retaining Walker and said the recent trade of Dilson Herrera to Cincinnati is a factor.
Walker, 30, was acquired before the season from the Pirates in exchange for left-handed pitcher Jonathon Niese, who the Mets re-acquired from Pittsburgh last month in exchange for Antonio Bastardo.
Walker is hitting .268/.330/.449 with 19 HR and 49 RBI this season.
