Mets have a new single-season home run king and his name is Pete Alonso

On Tuesday night against the Chicago Cubs, Pete Alonso made history, breaking the New York Mets franchise record for home runs in a season with his 42nd knock of his rookie campaign.

Leading off the 4th inning, Alonso swung on the first pitch he saw from Yu Darvish, driving it deep to right field for an opposite-field home run, surpassing Todd Hundley and Carlos Beltran’s franchise record of 41, set in 1996 and 2006 respectively.

In his rookie campaign, the Mets’ first baseman has showcased his potential as a power hitter time and time again, as this is far from the first time he has gotten his name in the record books this season.
