Mets' Harvey leaves with lead in wild return to Citi Field

The Dark Knight has returned to Gotham, but a familiar Mets rival ruined Harvey’s storybook opening inning.

A light first-inning crowd made its collective voice heard as Matt Harvey began his first Citi Field start since Aug. 24, 2013 with a 96 mile-an-hour fastball to Phillies leadoff hitter Odubel Herrera.

Raucous “Har-vey!” chants rung out before Harvey even threw his first pitch. He struck Herrera out swinging with an 83 mph curveball.

As “Let’s Go Harvey!” chants broke out, he blew Freddy Galvis away with a 98 mph fastball for strike three.
