New York Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen announced a shuffling of manager Mickey Callaway's coaching staff Monday and said first base prospect Peter Alonso will be given a chance to win the starting job in spring training.
Van Wagenen announced from the general manager's meetings in Carlsbad, California, that the Mets were parting ways with hitting coach Pat Roessler and also will be looking for a bench coach after shifting Gary DiSarcina from that role to third base coach.
The Mets finished tied for last in all of baseball with a .234 team batting average and 23rd out of 30 teams with 676 runs scored.
