Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen expects Peter Alonso to be Opening Day 1B

There’s no messing around. Brodie Van Wagenen made it clear on Wednesday.

When on with WFAN’s Mike Francesa, the newly-minted New York Mets general manager made it clear that he believes Peter Alonso will represent the club’s Opening Day first baseman in 2019.

Van Wagenen says he intends for Peter Alonso to be the Opening Day first baseman. Lot of confidence in the kid. #Mets could use the RH power bat.

Alonso, 23, actually became the story late during the 2018 season when his agents publicly announced disappointment that their client had yet to find himself in The Show.
