Mets get Yoenis Cespedes contract break after injury investigation

Error 0:

The Mets will finally be getting a break on Yoenis Cespedes’ contract.

The Mets, Cespedes and the MLBPA negotiated a restructuring of the $29.5 million the outfielder was owed in the final year of his contract, The Post’s Joel Sherman reported.

Cespedes was recovering from double heel surgery in May when he fractured his ankle on his ranch in May. The Mets investigated the circumstances of that injury, stopped paying the outfielder and filed a grievance, a source told Sherman.

Now Cespedes will make significantly less in 2019, though the exact figure is not yet known.
