There is no need to gauge the excitement of the Flushing faithful when Mets ace Matt Harvey takes the mound Tuesday for his 2015 Citi Field debut — after all, they’ve waited over a year to see him pitch after the righthander had 2013 Tommy John surgery.
But Harvey? He did his best to downplay the occasion as nothing more than a routine start.
“I don’t want to make a story about it, but it’s obviously exciting to be home. We’re all excited, just as much as the other guys,” Harvey said before Monday’s 2-0 victory in the home opener.
