Mets fans salute Mike Piazza as his number is retired

Mets great and newly minted Hall of Famer Mike Piazza had his No. 31 retired on Saturday night at Citi Field, joining the ranks of immortal Mets Tom Seaver, Gil Hodges, and Casey Stengel.

Danny Abriano, Editor:

Piazza is now a forever Met, and his No. 31 hanging alongside Seaver, Hodges, and Stengel is something that is both incredibly deserved and incredibly fitting.

During his speech, when memories of so many of Piazza’s greatest Mets moments came flashing back to me, he quoted Tom Hanks but said there is crying in baseball.
