Mets fall to Pirates in 10th inning 3-2 during ‘big weekend’

PIRATES 3, METS 2 (10)

The Mets’ “big weekend” against a high-powered contender started with a tough 3-2 loss Friday night. The Pirates scored the go-ahead runs in the 10th inning off reliever Bobby Parnell, who gave up three consecutive singles without registering an out and heard a smattering of boos as he trudged off the mound.

The loss ended the Mets’ four-game winning streak and also perhaps gave them an idea of where they stand in the National League’s power structure. These Pirates are nothing like the Colorado Rockies, whom the Mets just beat up on earlier this week in a four-game sweep.
