Mets fall out of first after getting bludgeoned by Cardinals

In honor of David Letterman’s final show, the baseball team in Flushing performed “stupid Met tricks” on Wednesday.

In a second straight ugly-thon, the Mets were clearly overmatched by the National League’s best team and sounded the alarms that their vaunted starting pitching is vulnerable.

Bartolo Colon’s second straight stinker and another no-show night by the Mets lineup translated into a 9-0 loss to the Cardinals at Citi Field.

The Mets (23-18) fell one game behind the Nationals in the NL East, and will begin play Thursday in second place for the first time since April 15.
