Mets eye short-term Jacob deGrom fix with arbitration looming

Jacob deGrom’s 2019 contract could be resolved as soon as Friday, but his long-term status likely will not be addressed until later.

The star pitcher heads the list of Mets players who must decide by Friday whether to settle with the team for next season or head to arbitration. Michael Conforto, Zack Wheeler, Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz are the Mets’ other arbitration-eligible players, with Travis d’Arnaud already having settled with the club.

DeGrom earned $7.4 million last season, in which he posted a major-league-best 1.70 ERA and became the fourth Mets pitcher to win the Cy Young award.
