As expected, the Mets extended infielder Daniel Murphy a one-year, $15.8 million qualifying offer before Friday's 5 p.m. deadline.
Murphy has one week to accept or reject the Mets' qualifying offer. However, since the advent of qualifying offers, no player has accepted such a deal. If Murphy rejects the offer in favor of a multi-year deal from another team -- as he's likely to do -- the Mets would receive a supplemental round draft pick as compensation.
On the open market, Murphy is expected to command somewhere in the range of a four-year deal worth around $50 million.
