Former Mets outfielder Darryl Strawberry began a public intervention of sorts on Sunday, telling the Daily News that his former teammate, Dwight Gooden, is again abusing cocaine and is close to death.
On Monday, Gooden admitted he’s an addict but said there’s no cause for alarm. He also insinuated his friendship with Strawberry has been harmed.
“I am healthy,” Gooden said on The Joe Piscopo Show on WNYM-AM. “I do have a drug problem. I’ve been an addict most my life. I am an addict. I don’t hide from anything.
