Christian Scott and Trevor Rogers matched zeroes early in this game, with Scott pitching out of a jam in the bottom of the third. Miami loaded the bases with one out on an infield single and a pair of walks, but Scott and escaped by striking out Jesus Sanchez and getting Otto Lopez to foul out.
The Mets responded by jumping out to a lead the next inning, thanks to a couple of singles and a Luis Torrens sacrifice fly—aided by the first of three errors by Marlins catcher Nick Fortes, this on an errant pickoff attempt that allowed Pete Alonso to advance to third to score on the productive out.
