In the 38th round of this year’s draft, the Mets selected Daniel Alfonzo — that’s right, the son of former Met Edgardo Alfonzo. This is especially exciting for yours truly, as he hails from Bayside High School, right in my neighborhood.
Is Daniel anything like his father? Well, he plays both third base and shortstop, just like his father. Additionally, he has had quite the success at Bayside HS. He helped the team win their first PSAL Championship in 2016. This year, over the course of 16 games in the regular season, Alfonzo had 24 hits in 51 at-bats.
