Mets DFA John Mayberry, Jr

The Mets late Friday night designated John Mayberry, Jr. for assignment. So for the second straight year, Sandy Alderson’s free agent righty outfielder did not last the season.

Mayberry certainly earned his fate — he hit just .169 with three home runs and nine RBIs. He will make way for new Mets Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson (Danny Muno was also sent down).

Last year Chris Young was cut in the middle of the season. Mayberry was signed for $1.45 million, much less than Young’s $7.25 million.
