Kirk Nieuwenhuis’s time with the Mets appears to be over.
The outfielder, who showed flashes of potential over parts of four seasons with the Mets, was designated for assignment Tuesday, the team announced.
The Mets, looking for a lefthanded bat off the bench, recalled Darrell Ceciliani from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Nieuwenhuis was at one point looked upon as the Mets’ center felder of the future, and while he flashed a great glove, he never could hit consistentlty, eventually falling behind Juan Lagares on the depth chart.
