Mets designate outfield prospect Darrell Ceciliani for assignment

NEW YORK-- The New York Mets have designated outfield prospect Darrell Ceciliani for assignment to clear the 40-man roster spot for the return of Yoenis Cespedes.

Ceciliani, 25, hit .206 (14-for-68) with one homer and three RBIs in the majors last season. He had five steals and struck out 25 times.

A lefty-hitting outfielder, Ceciliani was drafted in the fourth round in 2009 out of Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Washington.

The Mets also recently designated Carlos Torres for assignment, when they needed to free a 40-man roster spot for left-handed reliever Antonio Bastardo.
