Mets designate Matt den Dekker for assignment

After bringing Matt den Dekker back and playing him regularly for a stretch of games, the Mets have designated the outfielder for assignment. In the 21 plate appearances he made since being called up earlier this month, den Dekker hit just .000/.095/.000 with a -65 wRC+. The move opens up a spot for newly-signed outfielder Austin Jackson on both the active and 40-man roster.

den Dekker came up through the Mets’ system and spent parts of the 2013 and 2014 seasons as the major league level. He was traded to the Nationals just before the 2015 season began for left-handed relief pitcher Jerry Blevins.
