For the third time during the 2021 season, the Mets have designated right-handed pitcher Jerad Eickhoff for assignment. The 31-year-old had been designated for assignment after his start on July 19, but with the Mets literally not having a starting pitcher available for their game last night, the team brought Eickhoff back from free agency for the start.
What resulted was entirely predictable, as Eickhoff gave up ten runs in just three-and-one-third innings of work. In total, he has an 8.69 ERA in 19.2 innings with the Mets this year.
The Mets are replacing Eickhoff on the roster with a pitcher most people probably haven’t heard of: Akeem Bostick.
